SEO for a business in Armenia: where to start and what to skip
Three languages, a small market and very specific queries. What works differently here, and the five steps that pay off first.

The market is small, and that is good news: fewer queries, lower competition, and careful work shows results in months rather than years. The bad news is that mistakes show immediately too, because there is nothing to hide behind.
1. Decide which languages you answer in
Armenian, Russian and English are searched by different people with different intent. The common mistake is one language plus hope that browser translation copes. To search these are three pages, each needing its own address and title.
- One address per language, cross-linked with hreflang
- Translate the page, not just the heading
- Company names and personal names stay untranslated
2. Take the maps before the site
In local search a 2GIS and Google Maps listing often brings more enquiries than the site, and takes an evening to fill in. Hours, phone, address, photos, categories — all of it answers "near me", which a website answers badly.
3. Write for a question, not a keyword
"Website Yerevan" is a query with no intent. "How much does a website for a cafe cost" is a question a page can answer, bringing a reader who is already thinking about buying.
One page, one question. A page answering five questions answers none.
4. Reviews matter more than links
For a local business, reviews on maps and marketplaces move decisions more than ranking position, and they are easier to get: ask after every deal. Link building in this market is almost always premature.
5. The technical floor
- The site opens on a phone and loads in under three seconds
- Every page has its own title and description
- There is a sitemap and it does not lie
- Pages arrive with content instead of being drawn by script afterwards
Check that last one separately: if the crawler receives an empty page painted later by JavaScript, none of the rest matters.
